LEEP
Treating certain abnormal cervical changes
A loop electrosurgical excision procedure, or LEEP, uses a thin wire loop with electrical energy to remove abnormal cervical tissue. It may be recommended after cervical screening, colposcopy, and biopsy identify changes that should be treated.
The removed tissue is examined, and follow-up testing is important because treatment does not eliminate the need for future cervical surveillance.
