ENDOMETRIAL ABLATION
A treatment option for selected patients with heavy periods
Endometrial ablation treats heavy menstrual bleeding by destroying a thin layer of the uterine lining. It does not remove the uterus, and it is not a treatment for menopause or a method of contraception.
Ablation is intended for carefully selected patients who do not desire future pregnancy. Evaluation is required to identify the cause of bleeding, assess the uterus, and rule out conditions that would make the procedure inappropriate.
Before choosing ablation
We discuss medication, hormonal options, IUDs, hysteroscopic treatment, and surgery when relevant. The goal is an informed decision—not automatic progression to a procedure.
Results and risks
Many patients experience lighter bleeding, but results vary and some need additional treatment. Risks, recovery, contraception needs, and the importance of evaluating future bleeding are discussed before scheduling.
